Doctors

If you spend any time at all researching doctors that are willing to consider biological interventions, you will find that many of them are very skeptical and unwilling to try these interventions. We do not endorse any specific protocol or doctor, but many of the members of BIASD have found doctors who are willing to work with parents in pursuit of alternative therapies.  We share the names of these doctors in the hope that other frustrated parents will found someone who is willing to listen to their concerns and provide care that helps our children improve.

Dr. Bradstreet is the father of an autistic child and has been researching treatments for autism since 1998 when efforts to find treatment for his son failed. Dr. Kartizinel and Scott Smith, who are also fathers of autistic children assist Dr. Bradstreet. They are on the leading edge of research into treatments for developmental disorders and have many resources available through the International Child Development Resource Center.

Dr. Marc Weinberg

Intercoastal Family Practice
943 S. Beneva Road, Sarasota Florida 34232
(941) 953-5213

Dr. Weinberg does not specifically deal with ASD, however, some parents at BIASD who have gone to him report that he is very responsive to trying new therapies. He is willing to work with parents, schedule labwork, interpret lab results and make recommendations where possible.

Dr. Weinberg practices holistic medicine where the goal is to look at the whole person, including physical, nutritional, environmental, emotional, social, spiritual and lifestyle values, according to the Canadian Holistic Medical Association.

Diagnosing Autism

Before seeking treatment for your child and prior to your child's IEP, you may want to obtain a professional diagnosis. While not required for an IEP, it is helpful to have an independent evaluation because school evaluations are often not as thorough as independent evaluations and obtaining an evaluation on your own may help you later when you try to get services for your child. Evaluations are normally performed by a pediatric neuropsychologist and/or a developmental and behavioral pediatrician.

Comprehensive MedPsych System, Inc. will evaluate your child for autism spectrum disorders. Their services may be covered under your insurance plan.
